Please urge the committee to look at Nevada’s actual data and not base our policies and legislation on fear and hyped-up predictive models. Please urge the committee to prioritize the health freedom of every Nevadan and their right to say no to masks, testing, tracking, and eventually vaccination. Please urge the committee to disentangle the state of Nevada from any allegiance to this Western Pact and instead have elected officials who are representative of ONLY the Nevadans who elected them rather than the whims of governors of neighboring states. Liberty is essential, and Nevadans are capable of managing their own health and infection risks while the Government focuses on upholding the Constitution of the US and of the State of NV.
At Nevada Families for Freedom, we are concerned about the major overreaches of government in response to the recent pandemic. Governor Sisolak has allied our state with California, Washington, and Oregon in the “Western Pact.” https://bit.ly/2zcQSnc
Governor Inslee has recently described how children could be removed from their homes if their parents were found to have tested positive for this coronavirus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWQMx4HxWIw&t=910s
He wants to use an app in development by Apple and Google to track all the citizens of his state, and he suggests that families would have “support” of a call or text daily to find out about their needs to make sure they are as comfortable as possible during their mandatory 14 day quarantine for the entire family. https://bit.ly/3g11hmy
Recent publications are already discussing making the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for children and/or adults including the ability of the child to get the fast-tracked vaccine without the consent of their parents or as a requirement for school attendance. One paper said, “it is worth considering not just a mandate, but the right of a minor to consent to a vaccine over parental opposition” https://bit.ly/2ZhFwJd
As of May 18, Nevada has had a total of 350 deaths with COVID-19 and the overwhelming majority of those tested for the virus have been negative (74,926 negative tests out of 81,832 people tested) https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov
Despite these low numbers of total confirmed cases statewide, the government, health agencies, and even private businesses are demanding citizens wear masks as a condition of employment or opening up their businesses. Wearing a fabric or paper mask has not been proven effective at preventing the transmission of anything especially when worn as many people do without proper hand washing protocols, touching and adjusting the mask with their hands and without proper sanitization between wearing it. Mandating masks for business opening and employment is not an evidence-based practice and certainly not necessary for a disease that has caused so few actual cases and even fewer deaths in the State of Nevada.
The University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy has stated:
“We do not recommend requiring the general public who do not have symptoms of COVID-19-like illness to routinely wear cloth or surgical masks because:
There is no scientific evidence they are effective in reducing the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission
Their use may result in those wearing the masks to relax other distancing efforts because they have a sense of protection
We need to preserve the supply of surgical masks for at-risk healthcare workers.”
Wearing a mask restricts oxygen intake and can actually lead to increased infection. A Reno woman passed out while shopping last week because her mask lead to hypoxia. At Nevada Families for Freedom, we are concerned that mandating masks will lead to mandating testing (even when the testing is not particularly reliable), tracking, and vaccination for a virus with total death-rates in the range of annual flu/pneumonia deaths as reported by the CDC.

For those wanting more information about the research on cloth masks and public mask-wearing, the following articles are instructive:
97% of particles were transmitted through cloth masks. https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/5/4/e006577.full…
Neither surgical nor cotton masks effectively filtered SARS-CoV-2 during coughs by infected patients. https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-1342…
[T]he WHO has said that wearing masks may create a false sense of security among the general public and has recommended more appropriate measures of defense than wearing a surgical mask or respirator. https://ehsdailyadvisor.blr.com/…/can-employers-mandate-t…/…
